FOUR trends in the future: Screening、Flowing、Sharing、Accessing
In 1993, Kevin Kelly established the "WIRED," a Steve Jobs's favorite magazine. 28 years ago, he predicted that all computers would be networked. People would be closely linked as bees in the hive-like. Followed by the cloud era, internet becomes a country and PC will be dead.
Kevin said the future screen will be everywhere, and any flat object can be screen. We can interact with screen which means screen will detect the expression of action, eye movement, time pausing, and then give us response.
Screening、Flowing、Sharing、Accessing
A screen will follow its own; for example, "Project Glass" which has been launched by Google recently. The glasses not only support augmented reality technology but also be controlled by voice; for example, to make a phone call. This will create a paradigm shift in human culture. In the past, the cultural center is books. The future will be screens. Screens will change the way of human interaction.Followed by a lot of information, and Kevin said that screens capture data.
He proposed a new term: "Movage" which replaced the word, Storage, because this information is dynamic and countless.
When Facebook privacy controversy has been lambasted, Kevin pointed out one thing: all this is just the beginning. If the "share" is calculated by percentage, it will be just single figure at this stage.
Everything is bound to be shared out even if the individual's health information; thus, a new health care system has been created.
All we can do is try to keep the balance between personal and public information, Kevin said. The last point is a new business model. Kevin said that consumers will not spend money to buy the ownership of digital music or writings, but only to buy the access .
Some of audience have asked interesting questions in the speech. For example, one audience asked what kind of mobile did the lecturer use, but Kevin Kelly said he didn't have a smart phone. Usually he uses only an old Moto phone, and only his wife knows the number. They asked him why, he said he is waiting for the iPhone 5, and he was serious.
And this question is somehow related to another question.
People asked Kevin Kelly's opinions about Facebook spent ONE billion to acquire Instagram, but he seemed not have much interested in this question. He said he is not particularly to pay attention to the market valuation of some companies that sort of thing. Instagram has not earned money yet, but FB has a lot of cash and they can spend money to buy anything they want.
Kevin Kelly's article has always been not from the perspective of general business to look at things, and neither from a quantitative view of the venture capital / investors to see something valuable. He observed the phenomenon of large pieces of subtle signals rather than a single issue, so he is a magazine publisher rather than investors. Therefore, it won't be surprise if he answers like that. But I think another reason is he did not use smart phones, and the addicted users of iPhone, somehow can understand why the reason why FB bought Instagram with a high price.
